Guitarist Jake Rowland describes Sky House, his first solo album, simply as "organized around Goldilocks and the Three Bears." While seemingly enigmatic, if the fairy tale is taken as a story of contrasts we find the description rather appropriate. The first side of the tape is made up of a juxtaposition of contrasting pieces, both hot and cool, hard and soft, close and distant, fluidly melodic and abrasively sporadic. Side two contains a single long piece, a "just right" minimalist work where changes emerge subtlety. This makes for a more relaxed listening experience, but the piece has enough edge to keep us alert - unlike poor Goldilocks, asleep when the bears come home.
